GLEN AVON - Authorities are emphasizing swimming pool safety following the drowning death of a Glen Avon child Tuesday.
Rafael Cortez Jr. was found in a swimming pool at his family’s Riverside residence at the 4500 block of Glen Street. Paramedics administered CPR to the 1-year-old boy but were unable to revive him.
The child was transported to Riverside Community Hospital and was pronounced dead at 7:46 p.m.
“There was a family gathering at the house and attention was drawn away from the child for a short period of time,” said Investigator Jerry Franchville, public information officer for Riverside County’s sheriff’s department.
Franchville said the child was found in the pool shortly after the drowning.
About 2,700 children under age 5 are treated by emergency personnel each year, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. An average of 283 children under 5 die as a result of accidental drowning each year.
There were 19 drowning deaths in Riverside County last year. This year, there have been three drowning deaths as of today.
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department advises always checking the swimming pool if a child is missing.
A near drowning of a 2-year-old boy occurred Monday at the 800 block of Avenida Ladera in San Dimas. According to Los Angeles County sheriff’s Lt. Roxanna Hart, the child was not breathing when the paramedics arrived at 8:26 p.m. Paramedics revived the child and transported him to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center in Pomona. His condition is not known.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department advises residents ensure swimming pool safeguards are in place.
– Parents should never leave small children unsupervised.
– Parents should never leave toys or floats in the swimming pool when it is not in use since these toys are tempting to small children.
– All swimming pool users should know how to swim. Those learning to swim should be accompanied by a good swimmer.
– Parents should not allow small children to swim alone.
– Swimming pool covers should always be completely removed prior to use.
– Residents should always keep basic lifesaving equipment by the swimming pool. – Parents should learn CPR and insist anyone who cares for their child know CPR.

Probably a Mexican moron that wants to sue because they were drinking beer rather than watching their child. No, sympathy from me…

Always sad to see a child loose thier life when it could have been avoided . A few dollars for a Life jacket for the little guy when around a pool

Relocate this thread out of public view for the obvious defamatory opinion stated in post #2

As a businessperson I’d prefer to not be associated with Mr. Delanguillette in any way…

Very sad that this behavior/opinion is allowed by INACHI

Someone people could probably fix the worlds problems in the blink of an eye…then again some people can’t open their eyes :roll::roll:
