4 Mock Inspections Question

Hello all,

I passed my state exam yesterday with an 88%. So now I am working on the 4 mock inspections to get my CPI certificate. I’ve already completed 1 inspection of my own home. My questions is, does any one have ideas on how I can perform the other 3? I recently moved to Florida so I don’t know many people here yet to offer a free inspection to. my neighbor looked at me very suspiciously when I asked him if I could inspect his home so I feel funny asking other neighbors now. Any other ideas? I appreciate any feedback. I know this should be a very easy task but it is not the easiest when you don’t know anyone in town. Thanks

Afternoon, Frances. Hope to find you well.

If I am not mistaken all 4 mock inspections can be on your home.

Just a thought. AI: You can inspect the same home four times, perhaps focusing on different components or conditions in each mock report. While the inspection itself is on one property, you must create a separate, complete report for each of the four submissions to meet the requirements.

If not, ask some members to email you pictures. How many images would you need? I can send you some. Again, use your home as a template/example. They do not have to be complicate! KISS: Keep It Simple Student!

Ask a CMI in your area. Use the InterNACHI member search tool.

I think you need to do the mock inspections on different homes. Florida has some generous inspectors that likely will let you shadow them. Shadowing counts for your mock inspections. Go to the InterNACHI website and Find an Inspector. Call some in your area. And depending on where you are, there may be an inspector that posts on this forum that will help you. BTW, some inspectors treat newbies as competition, but in big markets, there are usually some that will let you follow them around.

I think for your own edification, you should be doing mock inspections on as many different style homes you can (e.g. old, new, slab, crawlspace). I did mine mostly on the homes of friends and relatives. So, my best advice is to make some more friends (ha!).

Morning, Brian. Hope to find you well and in good spirits today.

I can not agree with you more, Brian. Thank you for your post.
I hope you do not mind if I build off of your thought provoking string.

For any new inspector or inspectors that have taken a brief hiatus/pause. They should be doing as many practice mock inspections, on as many different style homes, or even various elements of structures, components or systems, as they can.
Slabs, crawlspaces, basements, apartments, Condos, 2.5 story, from century to modern homes.

InterNACHI should publish articles every quarterly about the benefits of ‘repetitive practice’ for both inspecting and writing mock reports. IMO, Repetitive practice in career objectives leads to easier faster successful outcomes.

How many here look at building for defects or oddities when they walk down the street for a stroll? I see everyone raised their hands…Lol It is bakedin habit.

AI: physically changing the brain to make skills more automatic, requiring less cognitive effort and improving performance speed and accuracy. Through the process of repetition, neural pathways are strengthened, and myelin builds up around them, allowing for faster and more efficient signal processing. This also improves long-term memory retention, reduces errors, and allows the brain to focus on more complex or strategic aspects of a task.

Thank you Brian.
Regards.
Robert

Ask more than one person.

But more so, consider your presentation. Now that you know you will be met with skepticism you must find a way to overcome the suspicion.

For the record, from this day forward you will be convincing other people you are trustworthy.

You are a professional seeking an opportunity to refine your skills. Act like it.

Best of luck going forward. We’d love to hear how it goes.

Is this the same requirement in every state? I’m in Louisiana.

I expect it is not a requirement in any state (to the my knowledge)… My point is that every aspiring home inspector should use the mock inspections as an opportunity to expand their knowledge and experience.
