It’s the same as your car . It is a sealed system ,and unless there is a leak or some other problem all is good. Wait for it>>>>>>>>> here come the pros icon_biggrin.gif

I am no expert but I agree with Todd.

First it is not coolant like in a car radiator it if refrigerant like in a cars AC system.

Considering the compressor used on home ACs is a Hermetic Refrigerant Motor-Compressor it is truly a sealed system.

Quote:
Hermetic Refrigerant Motor-Compressor. A combination consisting of a compressor and motor, both of which are enclosed in the same housing, with no external shaft or shaft seals, the motor operating in the refrigerant.

As you can see by the definition there is no shaft seal to leak which is a problem with car AC compressors.

With the entire system copper or other metals as long as it did not leak when installed it should not leak ever unless some one damages a line.

Same can be said of a refrigerator.

Remember I am no expert just an electrician.

Todd I thought you nailed it with the sealed system remark.

By the way Bob I love your posts. You and Joe seem to be able to quote the NEC without having to look it up. I find that amazing I was a Sparky for a long time and I still find that I must look it up before I am ready to give answers.
You guys are definitely Masters of the trade. I am glad you guy's are here.

Thanks Todd really I do look things up quite often just to check, even though I may be fairly certain of the answer.

It helps a lot having the NEC installed on my PC, I can find things pretty quick.

That is where the Hermetic Refrigerant Motor-Compressor definition came from. ![icon_wink.gif](upload://ssT9V5t45yjlgXqiFRXL04eXtqw.gif)

I also do a lot of work in supermarkets so I have some knowledge (enough to be dangerous ) of refrigeration.
