George Foreman went to the top of a profession three separate times:
He was heavyweight champion, then retired, came back at age 45 and became the heavyweight champion again… at 45! And of course he did the George Foreman Grill which made him $200 million, more than he made from boxing.
Some manufacturer sent him the grill and after 6 months of it sitting in his kitchen, his wife finally used it and made him a burger. It was so good that he cut a deal with the manufacturer to make a couple bucks on each one sold. Then he shot his own commercial not even mentioning his boxing career. He said that no woman buying it cared about boxing. His first check was for $138 million which was the largest endorsement check ever written.
There are not many people who top a career three different times.
Jeff Bezos did it twice: (Amazon, AWS).
Arnold Schwarzenegger did it three times: (Body building, acting, Governor of California).
Donald Trump did it five times: (Real estate, best-selling book, hit TV show, President, then 4 years later President again).
I lost track of how many times Elon Musk did it, but he holds the record.
George Edward Foreman was a professional boxer, turned businessman, a minister and lastly an author. That is one full life.
I loved to hear George talk. His entrepreneurial ventures were sharp as his punch.
1974: Rumble in the Jungle bout with Muhammad Ali in Zaire. I know I drank at least a box before going to the tavern with all my buds.
What made George Forman a household name? (The George Foreman Grill)
Keep on punching George.
Say hello to Ali for me.
RIP George.
