I received a copy of this letter, not sure why.

Does anyone know the author of this letter.

Representative Accavitti,

I appreciate your calling me to discuss HB 5587 and the open letter from the President of The Great Lakes Chapter of American Society of Home Inspectors.

It is my belief Mr. Jacobs did not intend the letter to reflect the thoughts and opinions of the Great Lakes Chapter nor our national organization. The letter appears to be thoughtful and reflects Mr. Jacobs opinion. Unfortunately, the geography and demographics of Michigan makes it difficult to accurately assess the home inspection industry objectively.

I have been in contact with Mr. Bob Kociolek, Director of Chapter Relation and State Affairs for The American Society of Home Inspectors(http://www.ashi.org/). He has indicated that he would be available to explain their position and assist Michigan ASHI home inspectors develop a position on the bill. ASHI inspectors are the leaders in this industry and will be invaluable resources during the licensing process. I cannot say whether they will be supportive, as no effort has been made to address them as a group.

With assistance from ASHI(American Society of Home Inspectors- http://www.ashi.org/), NAHI(National Association of Home Inspectors- http://www.nahi.org/) and possibly NACHI(National Association of Certified Home Inspectors- http://www.nachi.org/) my office will attempt to locate and notify as many home inspectors as possible and have conversations and meetings to learn the thoughts of as many affected persons as possible. My target date for this goal is approx. the first part of October or last part of September of this year. I will keep you updated.

I am strongly supportive of Home Inspector Licensing in the State of Michigan. I was involved with an effort in the early 90's that did not succeed. It is my belief it is mainly a consumer protection issue. I am not aware of any "official" position from any group or organization at this time regarding this bill. I have participated in several meetings of home inspectors around the state. My company operates all over Michigan and does business in other states as well. My perspective may be slightly different.

This cannot be a partisan issue and I applaud your efforts to keep it that way. I also am of the opinion the bill should be at least revenue neutral and provide consumer protection. The lessons learned from other states will allow us to implement the "best" possible law.

I have enrolled in all available electronic notification systems, however would appreciate your office contacting my office if we can be of assistance.
