A question about Crossover Valve and Recirculation Systems

I’m learning about hot water recirculation system, and I have a question about crossover valves:

If the recirculation system is timer-based and the pump is activated - but the water in the lines is hot enough that the crossover valve (at the sink) remains closed, what happens to the pump if there is no water circulation? Are the pumps intelligent enough to shut off?

This question assumes there is no hot water return on the branch line!

Research “dead head pump”. For further research contact the manufacturer of the pump in question.
