So, you want to be your own boss? Get a good lawyer. He will tell you how to right reports, and take your money. Get a good accountant, he/she will take your money every month for taxes and payroll. Get good business insurance; pay that every quarter. Your wife will bother you every night “honey, how many inspections do you have this week”? Wow. Now you have several bosses. Come to KC, and ride with me. I will show you how to do roof inspections without walking on them. It’s safer. All it takes is once. Be safe; not sorry.
I still have to stand by this suggestion. I am to about page 198 and still learning. Worth every penny. I just wish I knew about it before getting into this biz
We have only worked about 5 saturdays this year and never a sunday. Just saying
I believe most folks starting out trying to gain clients may just be a little different.
Just saying.
How long you been in the biz compared to a new guy??
I do not work weekends either but would make more money if did. Some things are not as important as money to me any longer even though I desperately want more money.
Decisions, Decisions…The reason I do not work weekends is right now sitting on my left armrest going through her Grandpa’s rolodex PRICELESS. Soon we will be going to the carnival if her friend ever gets here.
Thanks everyone for the information, whether positive or negative. I’ve been following the boards and learning a lot these past few weeks. The books I ordered through InterNACHI should be coming in tomorrow. Now it’s time to start studying. Eventually I plan on signing up as a member because their is a lot of information on this website. My goal is to kick off my new business in late February. I know this is a tight deadline, but that’s my plan. My wife is 100% behind me and helping out. She does all the marketing/communications for the Red Cross in the area, so she plans on helping me out in that area with her expertise.
Gary,
I would definitely like to take you up on the offer to ride along with you sometime. The more hands on experience I can get the better off I will be. I’m supposed to be riding with Charley Bottger soon, but would like to ride with you maybe sometime in early December.
Michael,
I plan on working every weekend and evening anyways. As I mentioned previously, I work full time as a construction engineer and I own a bunch of rental properties, so I’m constantly working evenings and weekends right now anyways. But it is motivating because the more I put into it, the more I directly get out of it. My engineering job is very un-motivating. Also, I’ve already started reading the marketing book you recommended. Lots of good information in there.
This is an attractive offer.
Very attractive offer from Charley L. Bottger
^^^^^Are you wearing your red hat Charley? ^^^^^:p:D:shock::mrgreen:
Justin,
Best of luck to you if you ever need anything you think I can help you with do not hesitate to ask. I am sure that someone that is as willing and “WANTS” to work as much as you do is bound to be a success
