AFCI test indicators are portable devices that mimic an actual arc taking place and if the breaker is working correctly the breaker should trip.
Due to some false test results that indicated a faulty breaker it is advised that all
AFCI test include testing the test button on the outlet and use the tester as a
complement rather than a substitute to the test button
The main difference between the AFCI indicator instrument and the reset button is that the test button will always indicate if an outlet is working correctly while the instrument may not.
