Age of Day & Night?

My furnace won’t start. Pilot is lit, T-Stat is not the problem. This is a very simple furnace. There is no label or brand name on the outside of the unit but in the lower areaunder the pilot light there is an information tag.

BDP Company Division of Carrier Corporation
Model 100-D19
Product No. 396DAD000100AAAA

My guess is that the 1177 in the serial number is November 1977. The final inspection on the house post construction was Sept 1978 so my guess is that the 11/77 is when it was manufactured.

Where can I get a circuit diagram for this unit so I can diagnose the problem?

Are there parts available for this furnace? I hate to have to replace the whole thing as it has functioned well until a few days ago.

Hey, Paul.

I think you’ve got it with November 1977. Try the Bryant web site or call their customer relations department at 800-428-4326. Good luck with finding a circuit diagram for a 30-year-old furnace. Not impossible, but probably difficult.

Also try your local HVAC company, the oldest one around since they might have some old fogies on hand who know everything there is to know about it.

I am having simliar problems with my furnace not starting intermittently. It appears to be related to the doors safety switch since whenever I move the door slightly to get in and check, the furnace comes on. This may be a similar cause of your problem.

AS for the date of manufacture, my furnace is a model 395AAW060090 with a S/N 2885C76199. This would indicate to me that the furnace was manufactured in the 28th week (July) of 1985. If that’s the dating convention, then I’d say S/N 1177C61626 was manufactured in the 11th week (March) of 1977.

Residential Furnace (Prior to 1970)
SN: 2xxxxxxx
Through the 1960’s Day & Night used the first digit of the serial number to indicate year of manufacture. For example: 2xxxxxxx = 1962, 3xxxxxxx = 1963, etc.

Residential Furnace (1970 thru 1979) SN: M4xxxxxx (1970 through 1979)

Beginning in 1970 Day & Night used the first two digits of the serial number with the 1st digit (Letter) indicating the month of manufacture. A=January, B=February, C=March, D=April, E=May, F=June, G=July, H=August, “I” was not used, J=September, K=October, L=November, and M=December. The 2nd digit (Number) indicated the year. 0=1970, 1=1971, 2=1972, 3=1973, 4=1974, 5=1975, 6=1976, 7=1977, 8=1978, 9=1979. In the sample provided the furnace was manufactured December 1974.

Residential Furnace (1980 to present)
**SN: 3784****C47010 (1980 to Present) ****Model # Example **48GP02404030

From 1980 to Present the first two digits of the serial number indicate the week and the 3rd and 4th digits indicate year of manufacture. In the sample # the Furnace was manufactured the 37th week of 1984

Hello, sorry to kick such an old thread but this was the closeest information I could find on an old wall heater with the google. I was actually looking for install/removal information but this thread got me curious. Anybody want to take a shot?

Day and Night 40,000 (btu?)
