Hey guys,


I am not trying to offend anyone nor prod to much into people's personal life. However, I would like to hear form as many as would like to respond as to "How long have you been inspecting?" "Why did you start" and "How old are you now?"

I am curious to know how may guys/ and girls are less than 30 years old? 30-39? 40-49? 50+?

I look forward to your posts!!!

To answer your general questions.

How long? - Debateable. As a Contractor a very long time. As a "NACHI Home Inspector", less than a year.

How old? - As my wife told me, my picture says it all. 57+.

Got into this just 3 years ago at the advice of some friends and family and to make a difference in the construction field.

My age, well, let's just say I'm old enough that I've never been challenged too much on my knowledge in the field and I'm young enough to climb in and out of small spaces, foundation/footing holes and up and down ladders and on roofs!! The day I can't do the physical demands is the day I teach and/or write about the inspection field!! ![icon_smile.gif](upload://b6iczyK1ETUUqRUc4PAkX83GF2O.gif)

Started my building construction training in the fire service at 16. Started doing fire sprinklers at 18. Worked my way up to foreman. Spent 2 1/2 years with State Farm as an Structural Damage Estimator writing checks left and right. Worked last 5 years part time for a friend who runs his own General Contracting company. Work as a sub for him occassionally when he is bogged down (one man operation, besides me)

6 months inspecting.

I work for an engineering company right now as a construction manager and electrical designer. I have been in business 3 years doing inspections. 39 years old. Started my home insp. business in Maryland 7years ago and now have an office in Florida. Started out working as a building inspector for a local jurisdiction in Md. and was doing the home inspections on the side to supplement my LOW pay. It grew to a full time job with much better pay. When I left Maryland to move to Florida, My boss at the city inspection office took over for me in Maryland and quit the city job. I much prefer working for myself over working for the gov. and dealing with all the B.S.

37 years young. Have spent 10+ years in the construction trades from framing to finish tile and cabinetry. Started w/ my dad doing kitchens and bath remodels. Jumped out of the trades to get into computer field, and now have come to HATE my current job. <3 months in the inspection biz. Still taking training classes, reading, reading, reading… I LOVE THIS FIELD!!!



Still looking for my first inspection but am willing to wait.

36 this year. worked up to project supervisor starting as a grunt for my dad at 16, been on the site since about 12 years old.


Started getting paid as a home inspector Nov. 10 2002


And I still don’t like going into real estate offices to beg for work nachi_sarcasm.gif so I do a super job and get lots of referrals.
