That is not what I percieve to be an ‘air gap’ the way I have learned it.


Air gaps are supposed to be above the flood rim of a fixture, not above or near traps!


It appears to be an automatic air vent which works as a vent. Up here in Canada those are illegal.

Joe, You might be referring to the on top of the sink type of air gap.


The “high loop” installed correctly as pictured in the first photo, is a form of an air gap.


The second picture, where the drain lie is laying on the floor of the kitchen sink base cabinet, is not a properly mounted “high loop” or air gap.


The anti-siphon device (AAV air admittance valve) is required on all new construction here in South Florida.
