Ed I have heard of them and they sent me Information about there courses. From what I read in their literature they seemed to cover all areas of HI. Are you planning on attending a mail order course or attending on site classes?I wonder how many HI with NACHI have only attended Mail order classes and how much they got out of them.

Hi Ed,
I was also unfamiliar with them until you posted this thread, it does appear that they have quite an extensive real estate, appraisal and an inspection program going I did have a look at the sample of the online education that they have available and he did appear to be reasonably thorough.
I do not know if any band members have previously used them, but from what I have seen, and based on the fact that they are accredited in some areas by some states would make me think that they are a reasonable education providery
if you do decide to purchase their courses please let me know how you get on.

Gerry,
My brother took this course, before he got wise and went to a real school. It seems to me that all these courses are is send you the books, let you take the open book test, and if you pay all your money you pass.

I talked to someone at the school and they told me that the test is proctored. Also, they said that it is not open-book.
They told me that when you are ready to take the test (within one year max), you need to set up a proctor at a local college or library to have the materials sent there. After taking the test, the proctor would mail it in to the school.
As for the rest of it, yes it sounds like you are basiclly buying the books to study on your own. Isn’t that how any home study course would be or are there some that are more interactive?

They must have changed it since then.
I have seen lots of self studies that are very interactive. I would hope that some would create some that use a combination of DVD or VHS, software programs that can let you do mock inspections. and other things.
Learning from a book is ok. But it is really better to get out there and take a hands on class.

Kevin,
I attended the 8 day master course in NJ back in '99. I thought the instruction was very thorough. The post-support has been helpful, and I use the Home Inspection Report (bound books) for my inspections. They had some marketing help and tips for additional services that they pushed as well. I would recommend them if you’re serious and can afford them.
