Another "why I pull covers."

I found this Zinsco panel hiding behind a picture in a condo.

Other that the fact that it's a Zinsco, it doesn't appear to be too bad until you pull the cover.

Yes, it's over spray of plaster (texture coat). This particular panel also exceeds the "six throw" rule.

Jeff:

"Six Throw" rule --- please explain?

Is there a main disconnecting means, and is this the feeder to the only panelboard supplied by the load side of that "main" disconnect?

How about this one!

Absolutely no way of shutting down the system. Typical KC Kansas home, overhead conductors to the dwelling, overhead clearance about 7 feet, no mast head, dropped from under eaves to meter can.

FPE also, not a good idea.

Jeff,

How on earth did you manage to take a photo of my panel, the one I replaced about 10 years ago (oh, that's right, I saved it and it is in my garage). ![icon_biggrin.gif](upload://iKNGSw3qcRIEmXySa8gItY6Gczg.gif)

You will almost assuredly find that the bus bar is arced up and the breaker contacts are arced up.

THOSE THINGS CAUSE FIRES!

Joe,

Yes, this is a feeder panel so I guess the "six throw" rule doesn't apply. This was a sixth floor condo with the main disconnect in the parking structure below.

Jerry,

I know. . . I know. . .

No need to pull the cover on this one. Just replace as soon as you see "Zinsco." ![icon_wink.gif](upload://ssT9V5t45yjlgXqiFRXL04eXtqw.gif)

What’s the deal with Zinsco’s? I am only aware of watching out for FPE’s?
