I am sick of dealing with the gas pole saw and string trimmers that need a carb rebuild every year. I am looking at a Milwaukee M18 Pole Saw and String Trimmer Kit. I have all Milwaukee cordless tools so it makes sense to stay in the Milwaukee family.
Has anyone used one of these pole saws? Is it a toy or does it actually perform like they say?
Same. Especially when it is something used infrequently, like a pole saw. They turn to junk just sitting unused. Then when you need it, it is a half a day project to get it running again.
I’m hoping the new generations of cordless tools and batteries can perform, but I’m a bit skeptical. Milwaukee says 150 hardwood cuts per battery charge (using the XC 8.0 batteries).
Not sure about the Milwaukee cordless tools or the pole saw. But the Dewalt 18v cordless sawsall was a game changer for me, as far as gathering firewood, back when we used to go camping all the time.
And the rig has very good reviews. I’d go that route I say as I wait for the call to pick up my chainsaw because it wouldn’t start after sitting for 3 years. LOL!
They have a 16" chainsaw too, lol. I’m not sure I’m ready to make that leap yet though. I cut too much wood still to rely on a battery chainsaw I think. I would be curious to test it out though!
Yeah, I use my battery sawzall for so many things. It really is a great tool. Not great as a pole saw though unfortunately, unless you break out the ladder.
I loaned my cordless sawsall to a friend (he was retired and had time to go roaming and help people in need) after Irma. He returned it with rave reviews about clearing the way from fallen trees.
Yeah, I’m not ready to let go of the gas job yet either. I remember getting it back from loaning and he said the choke lock needed to be fixed so he wired it….yes, I remember now. It needed new parts now.
I had a older older Stihl that was gifted to me years ago. Hadn’t used it in over four years and had a tree fall in the yard this past fall, took the chainsaw in for a “refurbish”. It went straight to the hardware store dumpster and the tree is still on the ground…
It’s a nice Husqvarna, so I’ll get ‘er fixed. I always started on the 1st or 2nd pull. And, I loved sharpening it once I found my Dremel was the tool for that….2-3 minutes and done.
Yep, I use an air-powered die grinder with a chainsaw sharpening stone. Easy peezy and fast. I just free hand the angle though. Close enough. And every 3 or 4 sharpenings I’ll use a regular stone to take a bit off the top of the rakers. Again, close enough, lol.
Yes sir. The pole saw with the added extension works very well. Its a handful when standing in the backhoe bucket trying to cut very high to clear path for combine. I have the weedeater tool that swaps out with the pole saw too, but recently bought seperate string trimmer so i can leave pole saw at the farm. Batteries hold up well with the pole saw.
Thanks Michael. That is good to hear. It’s amazing what they can get out of those little batteries, and the right gearing I suppose. Can’t wait to try it out!
