Attic Components

Here are some photos of rafters are roofing slats (Under a metal roof). Some of the material appears to have been charred, but it is not consistent even on a single board.

Any ideas or suggestions as to what this may be? Does not APPEAR to be mold, does not come off to the touch…

There has been a fire and new boards added for the metal roof.

If no char comes off it may have been encapsulated to reduce smell. Also, sometimes they blast using baking soda as the blast medium to neutralize the smell and remove the loose char.

New batons added after the fire. Was there structural damage?

What’s a baton?

Kenton, I think he means batten.
