back flow

does any know if a back flow preventer with a discharge port need to be piped like a tpr valve ?

John can you add more details?

I found a new back flow preventer on the hot water heater inlet that has a vent port on the bottom that is threaded, located overhead in utility room. Should this be drain piped like a tprv down to the floor.

Guess with no picture it is tough on me at this point but do you mean a Extrol bladder system like this

This is the valve , it has an inlet ,outlet and relief ports

Oh that kind.
Though it should only leak if there is a backflow situation it certainly seems like a good idea if in a place where water damage can occur even though you have a TPR on the tank.

Thanks Bob just wanted another view point

N.P ,they put the thread on it for a reason.
