HOME INSPECTOR EDUCATION

ASHI-NE Education Committee
Jim Orphanos, Chairman

The highlight of this year?s schedule is the long awaited first annual ASHI-NE Weekend Educational Conference. This year?s Conference will be held on Cape Cod at the Falmouth Holiday Inn and will include a Historic Home Tour of ?Historic Highfield?. Highfield is the former home of Ely Lilly, the pharmaceutical magnate. This mansion is currently undergoing historic renovation and this will allow a unique insight into its construction. Several other Historic Homes in down town Falmouth will also be included in the tour that will begin Friday, October 15, 2004 At 3 PM and end at 6 PM. Three CEU?s from the Commonwealth are pending approval.

On Saturday morning, the 16th of October, the Conference will continue with a Continental breakfast and Shawn Macadden?s 3-hour presentation on ?Decks, Balconies, Porches and Stairways?. In answer to your oft-repeated requests, ASHI-NE is proud to present the EXCLUSIVE return of that famous Remodeler: Shawn McCadden, CR/CLC.

Shawn has achieved national recognition as a NARI Certified Remodeler (CR) and NARI Certified Lead Carpenter (CLC). Shawn is also currently a member of the Massachusetts Home Improvement Contractor Registration Board (HIC) and the NARI Certification Board. He is as funny as he is smart and has authored numerous articles that have appeared in respected trade and consumer magazines such as Remodeling, The Journal of Light Construction and Design/Build Business.

Come to lunch hungry because Roast Beef and fresh, native, Lemon Crumb Scrod is on the menu with all the fixings and desert!

The afternoon presenter will be Tom Byrne, former ASHI National President and Instructor at Building Inspectors Academy. Tom is without a doubt the funniest and most knowledgeable Home Inspector and Plumber you?ll ever meet. From Manhattan to the Bronx and yes even New Jersey, Tom has seen every conceivable amateur plumbing job you can think of and has the photos to prove it.

Do you have a question about any of the dozens of steam boilers and piping systems that were manufactured over the past century? Just ask Tom, he has the answer and probably a drawing. Tom will also address some new plumbing codes that are being rolled out.

At the conclusion of the seminar, there will be a one hour ?Ask the Experts Panel? that will be held concurrently with the ASHI-NE Board Meeting.
Several expert home inspectors will be present to answer any Home Inspection related questions you may have and share information the ASHI way. This is our way of helping our own and a great example of the benefit of membership in a Chapter. You?re not alone when you?re a member of ASHI.

Had enough? I hope not. You don?t want to miss??. the Cocktail Reception and hors d?oeuvres bar to follow! This event is sponsored by Yankee Pest and Crack-X who invite you to be their guest. Here is your chance to bring your partner, commiserate and network with these experts and your fellow inspectors. It?s time to make friends and get reacquainted with old ones! Raffles, giveaways!

Rumor has it that Golf foursomes and Striped Bass charters are being put together for early Sunday morning. For the rest of you, it may be time to ?Get over the Bourne Bridge? and head for home.

Why not come Friday morning and let your wife run wild at Christmas Tree Shops or Nantucket Traders! Falmouth is a beautiful Cape Cod town with a lot of old village charm. Walk Main Street at night under the street lights and visit some of the wonderful pubs and restaurants with entertainment. Martha?s Vineyard is a 45 minutes ferry ride and the world famous Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution and Museum is just 10 minutes from the Holiday Inn. How about the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration?s Aquarium in Woods Hole as well?

Yes, Mrs. Orphanos will be at the cocktail reception and will offer Home Inspector?s Wife, Anti-Stress Training. Get a jump on your educational credit requirements (a total of 10 MA CEU?s and ASHI MRC?s will be offered)!! Included with your registration fee is: breakfast, lunch and the Cocktail and Hors d?oeuvres Reception for the low price of $150.00 for ASHI Chapter members and $195.00 for non-members! Rooms at the Holiday Inn are available at a special ASHI reduced rate of $159.00.
