Just want a second opinion, shouldn’t the pier be supporting the notched portion of the beam.

There are many issues with this crawl but I am wanting verification on this.

Thanks

Shawn,

In my opinion, yes. I'd think that both sides of the cut should be gusseted, bolted to beam and the weight carried down laterally to the ground under the cut area.

Looks like it was cut for some plumbing or joist replacement or both.

That's just my opinion......

I’ll agree with Susan that it looks like it needs to be supported.

Is that a drywall wedge on the right side ![icon_rolleyes.gif](upload://iqxt7ABYC2TEBomNkCmZARIrQr6.gif)

Shawn, You are correct. Anytime that a girder has to be spliced it should be done on the pier. This is basic framing and who ever did this is not too smart. Also I see a joist in the picture that has nothing to sit on, just above the notch. It should either have a ledger strip or a joist hanger to support it. I like the way that they cut the girder to splice it, they turned a 2x10 into a 2x4. icon_rolleyes.gif icon_rolleyes.gif
