I’m in the process of starting my home inspection company and want to provide thermal imaging services. What is the best thermal-imaging camera on a budget? Thanks
What are you going to use it for?
Take an Infrared Level I or Building Sciences class first and then you will know. Some companies have imagers in class to review. Personally, I wouldn’t buy anything less than 320 x 240 pixels.
You will be happier to do that than just buying one on the fly.
Good luck.
As far as pure bang for the buck, I don’t see how you can beat the upgraded (hacked) E4. I bought one from this seller on eBay and it is legit.
Thanks for the information. I’ve heard that it’s a waste of money if you don’t have the 320x240 pixels. Thanks again!
How much is the upgrade?
I have been out of it for a while, so…
Sorry, I don’t remember but you can price the B-400 and the T-400 (which has the higher Temp built in already).
Okay, I will check it out. Thanks again.
I have an E6 and have been very happy with it. The only reason I did not go the E4 hacked to an E8 route is because Flir will not honor any warranty or perform service on a hacked unit. Should you ever have any issues with it, you are pretty much screwed. Buy the best camera you can afford.
Thanks for your input. I’ve been looking at the E6 for the last few days as a possibility given that it exceeds the minimum resolution of 120x120.
That is definitely a risk one takes. I viewed it as buying an extremely lightly used E8 for 1/3 the price of new.
I definitely see the appeal in getting the E8 features at $3,000.00 for $1,100.00.
I’m in the exact same situation as you are. From my understanding & time invested into it, this is a great unit for us beginners to get great resolution, clear overlay, & even Big Ben uses one in some of his videos on Internachi curriculum and YouTube videos. This link is cheaper than Inspector Outlet too. Cheers!
FLIR C3-X Compact Thermal Camera, Inspection Tool for Electrical/Mechanical, Building, and Maintenance Applications, with WiFi
Thanks for information!
Yes, I checked it out as well and I have noticed Big Ben using it in his videos. When it comes down to it that model is compact and does provide the minimum features to get you up and running in providing thermal imaging. Thanks for your input!
I can’t see spending a dollar on that camera with such poor resolution, at least for home inspections.
Thank you for comment
