Best Encapulation for Asbestos Tape on Ductwork

Those look like TJI joists. I don’t recall them being in use back in the asbestos days. When was this place built and what makes you think it’s ACM?

I’ve been wondering the same thing all along.

I had a contractor who that it was for sure because he never knew of white duct tape not containing asbestos. Also, the house was built in 1957.

I-joist - Wikipedia 1969?

Asbestos was not banned in the U.S until 1978. Possible it was still used on this home.

Good point, Joseph.

They were real expensive too. It was in the 80’s before I saw them in use, but Maine has always been behind times.
And your right about 1978 ban. I remember that. But the joint compound lasted in to the early 80’s to rid of their stock.

How does sealing the outside of asbestos covering address the interior side of the material which is whats spreading through the home ???..It does not and to say encapsulation is a proper method may get you sued when it comes to duct seams .
