BestInspectors.net and "Home Inspection Business System

There is a product sold on EBay for just $40 plus shipping but it is mostly a lot of hot air. It is mainly old public domain military documents related to buildings associated with military bases and associated activities. They advertise the heck out of it. Most of the info on the disk(s) is very amateurish and pulled directly from the Internet. They just modified it a bit and put their name on it. They also have a “report writing program” on the disk it that is very weak. It’s the worst I have ever seen sold publicly. It’s purely a checklist barely better than those paper versions sold in Professional Equipment’s catalog. There is a huge amount of topic areas missing from the excel based template and there is not one bit of boiler plate included. May the buyer beware. It’s a pure waste of money.

Be careful out there.

Hi Al long time no see icon_smile.gif

I have to agree with your assesment of this product, and many others knocking around on e-bay, many of them are complete garbage, in particular the Product sold by George Wells from "best Inspectors Network" or "management sience institue" which if I remember correctly is another of his vehicles are complete crap, one of my students last year showed me his product and I could not believe that he got money for it.
There is some good product on e-bay but you have to be careful what you spend your hard earned on, if anyone is concidering buying one of these software products by all means e-mail me for an assesment of it before you bid.

I hope this helps

Well call me a “CARP”,

I bought the software on e-bay and yes you get what you payfor, but id not trash it alone , its comparable to a lot of other checklist reporting systems and those thieves (we know who they are) are asking 200-400.00 for essentially the same style, at least Georges price was what i feel it was worth, I used it and found it was a good lesson that products like 3d-inspection software is money better spent (a little to much money).Another important lesson I learned early is that your only as good as your reporting system. icon_biggrin.gif

I just bought the Best Inspector software package on eBay. How could I resist? He had a package mis-priced at “Buy it now-$7.49”. I just received it, and am now looking it over.

The report is very sketchy, missing lots of things. But I do like the format, and figure I can use it to integrate my own report into. I haven't tried yet.

My own report is Microsoft based (Word, Access, and Excel) and very complete after a few years of evolution. The problem is that is is cumbersome and I have never been satisfied with the appearance. I think this may just be the vehicle I need to streamline my report.

The package contained tons of related documents, including a template for an inspection brochure. It needs to be completely re-written for my purposes, but again, I did like the format, and intend to use it.

We probably all agree, that you usually get what you pay for, But in this case, I paid almost nothing. What I got was very little content, but what I think may some great templates.

I also noticed on the eBay ads for this stuff, that you can upgrade to Homegauge. Does anyone know what the connection is between Bestinspector, and Homegauge?

Ted,

I have used both Home Gauge and Inspect Vue. I prefer Inspect Vue primarily because I prefer the extensive boilerplate and the frequent improvements. Both are good systems though.

Best wishes,
Mike

INSPECTVUE RESIDENTIAL IS NOW AVAILABLE FOR DOWNLOAD

The next generation of InspectVue R3 is now ready. InspectVue Residential
builds on InspectVue R3 so the program interface will already be familiar to
all. I have included a preliminary version of the manual that you can read
by clicking on Help / InspectVue Residential Manual. The next update should
include the final version of the manual. There has been many enhancements
that you have asked for that are included in the new update. Please see
below for a rundown of the changes.

PLEASE READ BEFORE YOU UPDATE

Before you update, please take the time to backup your libraries using the
InspectVue Editor. After installation of InspectVue Residential, your
libraries will be converted to the new format as you use them. Same thing
for any existing reports. Click on Tools / Backup Referral List and Library
to accomplish this. Then while running InspectVue R3 please take note of the
version that you are currently running. When you click on Help / InspectVue
on the Web / Check for Updates, the current version will be noted. If you
are running any version prior to 3.04.421 YOU MUST update to that version
first, then update to InspectVue Residential.

Any new user to InspectVue from this point forward will be getting a new
master library which is very similar to the old "Alternate Library" that is
now no longer available. If you would like to download this new library that
takes advantage of the new sections available, from InspectVue click on Help
/ InspectVue on the Web / Other Downloads, and you will see the new library.
This library will not take the place of any existing libraries, but will
install itself as "InspectVue Residential Library."

One thing that you will immediately notice is that if you use your original
libraries the sections will be in a different order. Based on your input we
changed the order of the section buttons. Because of the expanded number of
sections, you might find "blank" sections between some of your old sections.
This is a major upgrade for us and I am truly sorry for any inconvenience
that it might cause, but I am positive that you will all like the changes!

Along with InspectVue Residential and because of the additional sections you
will need to download and install a new version of InspectVue Mobile if you
are using a Pocket PC. This update can be found right below the InspectVue
Residential update. NOTE: If you have any existing reports on your PDA,
they WILL NOT WORK any longer after you update. So unload any reports that
you may currently have on your memory card prior to updating to InspectVue
Residential.

I have been running InspectVue since I started. I like the mobile portion that I load on my IPAQ (pocket PC) and complete most of the report as I do the inspection. I get back to the office upload the report to the computer, add the pictures, modify some of the wording and write my conclusion. Office time about 1 hr TOPS!. Then e-mail it to the client, print a copy place in nice 3 ring binder w/ 95 page book how to take operate your home by Mr. Fix-It. Send it out priority mail and my clients are extremely happy.

Don't forget to save your libraries!!!

Otherwise you will lose all the narratives you added.
