Can someone shed some light on this?

What might it be for?

I’ve never seen one of those before, but at a glance it looks like it’s just intended to mechanically fasten one to another at odd angles. It doesn’t seem to be tapping in or anything, although it can’t be ruled out from one photo. What did the one on the right go to? What’s the other one used for?

On the left is copper water pipe. The one on the right is 1/2 inch EMT that ran up into a wall.

It appears to be some type of bonding but I'm not sure.

It looks like diagonal bracing for scaffolds! icon_eek.gif

Only use I can think of is to stop the copper waste pipe vibrating in a quake. Weird!

My guess is that there is a bonding conductor IN the EMT. The EMT is required to be bonded back to ground (the bond conductor) at both ends.

However, it also looks like they lost the proper pipe clamp and substituted a 'U' bolt clamp instead. (Not Good)
