Question, When running additional circuits, in the basement with a drop ceiling, can you just secure to bottom of floor joist. Or should you drill through joist. Thanks

No drilling needed as long as they are secure and not rubbing anything sharp. Local code could vary but I doubt it.

Typically, we see most installed with electricians staples. (not to be confused with fencing staples, it makes a difference) Much easier to install and no drilling

Ok on running boards


334.15(C) In Unfinished Basements. Where the cable is run at angles with joists in unfinished basements, it shall be permissible to secure cables not smaller than two 6 AWG or three 8 AWG conductors directly to the lower edges of the joists. Smaller cables shall be run either through bored holes in joists or on running boards.
