This is just for my knowledge. Not needed for a report or for an immediate response. Just hoping to gain some knowledge.
Came across this panel today during an inspection on a 7500 sf 1860s commercial type building.
Panel is currently active and in use as a sub panel fed from a 150 amp main in the basement. Active knob and tube as well as every conceivable type of wiring throughout the building.
C&P Electric works of Springfield MA
Has anyone seen one of these?
I googled it of course and searched the site and forum here and came up empty so maybe one of you has some insight to share.
Never saw one.
Looks like C & P Electric, Inc. (if same as …C & P Electric Works, Inc.) dissolved in 1998:
Thank you Larry. Although I looked at that and the timing is a bit off. Incorporation was in the 80’s. May be a later iteration of it but it’s the best lead so far.
My guess, too.
Did you observe any actual material defects?
Remember, Commercial and Residential are worlds apart in Standards.
No material defects with the panel itself. It was sort of a last straw on this one. Buyer had decided to walk due to significant structural issues and bowed brick facades and foundation. The buyer knew the electrical was always a concern as it’s 7000 sf and only a 150A service but had hoped to salvage some . Buyer was planning on turning it into 8 condo units and the service would have had to be upgraded significantly to do this.
I like to keep some track of unusual /unique equipment and or systems hence the ask if anyone has seen one before or has any insight into it
I would simply call it a “Edison Screw-based Fuse Panel.”
Thank you Bryan. Although I am looking for information about the manufacturer than nomenclature. I was hoping others who work with older buildings like I do may have seen one. It’s definitely an oddity and unique. May have been a one off or at least special order (the organization that built/owned this has built hundreds/thousands throughout the country)
The same here and add “obsolete and may affect insurance coverage”. If it is going to remodeled into 8 units and has K&T along with an Edison fuse panel, looks like new electric system is in order.
Yep! OAF! ![]()
