I just visited ASHI. I have a few questions:
1. Why are they not called 'certified'?
2. They list a bunch of schools that offer 'Certified Home Inspection' as a course.
3. Will these schools plug them over us, in return?
4. Why can't we list schools, other than CCs as well?
5. I would like to see us be listed first, when someone promts a search for Home Inspectors. I was under the impression that 'org' organizations would be listed before 'com'.
I realize that there are more than one topic listed, but they're food for thought.

NACHI does not charge much of anything to anyone. And we are trying to keep it that way. There are four ways for a school (or any private concern) to get a listing on NACHI’s site:
If a member of NACHI owns the company, they can certainly advertise their goods or services here (and some, though few do). We want to help our members achieve financial success (our Charter) any way we can. Besides, we should keep the $ in the family.
If a member recommends it highly.
If they agree to a link exchange.
or 4. If they are doing something that our membership would benefit from knowing about.

I haven’t really talked with Nick about this yet, but it makes more sense to me to charge schools, et cetera to be listed on NACHI.org. If a NACHI member is providing a service, then we should give them a preferred position for free, and if a service/school/whatever comes highly recommended by NACHI members, or we feel is really helpful to our members, we give them preferred positioning. That way, the people who really have nothing to do with NACHI fund further projects, and members still get everything for free. What do y’all think?

If they are not a NACHI member or other nonprofit entity, and they are making a profit from being listed on the board, they should be paying something.
Schools, reporting systems, tool sellers, all ought to be paying something, even if it's only a discount to NACHI members.

I experience a conflict of interest between my duty to NACHI members and my duty to the inspection industry as a whole. (especially when it comes to charging non-NACHI member enterprises for advertising). I used to put it in this order:
God
Country
Family
Inspection industry
NACHI members
Self
But now my duty order is:
God
Country
Family
NACHI members
Inspection industry
Self
So I think if a non-NACHI member enterprise wants to advertise, we will entertain the idea and use the $ to help our members. I'm just not going to go out and "sell advertising" and mess up our nice clean site/board. Besides, we get all sorts of proposals (like paying NACHI to have a question/answer within FAQ or Business Tips that has links to enterprises) but these proposals invariably come with catches (like exclusivity clauses). I think NACHI should direct our members in the RIGHT directions and not necessarily the directions that pay us.
