China should just respond by shipping us everything for free for a while

Jeff, I’m using your post in another thread to explain how tariffs harm American children.

Also, tariffs are a federal sales tax and sales taxes are also regressive (harm the poor).

Great stuff, thanks again.

Happy to assist!

Thing is, they won’t let us sell there. You know this. The over simplification of your point makes it meaningless. Such as most of Trump’s critics.

That’s a different argument and one I agree with. If Trump’s tariffs are only being used temporarily to open markets to us, then I take back everything I’ve said. Tariffs may be a tool to achieve that.

But if anyone thinks that permanent tariffs are a good thing, they are wrong. Tariffs are a federal sales tax on products that are so over-obviously being produced more efficiently by another country that we want to buy them at the inexpensive prices they are being sold for. And taxing that is harmful to Americans. And no, tariffs aren’t going to cause trillions of factories to open up in Ohio. And even if they did, there is no way Americans can manufacture most stuff competitively. We don’t have the work ethic any longer. Some of us do, most don’t. Hence the increase in the wealth gap.

Be careful what you say, you could lose your tax exempt status.

Flooding our country with cheap illegal labor to exploit, the nanny state, and offshoring everything else make your statement 100% accurate.

Trump is attempting to correct 2 out of 3 as we speak. But we keep knocking him down, and down and down, not because of common sense, but because of hyperpartisan, media-driven vitriol.

I remember when SC thrived in the garment industry, but it all dried up due to offshoring. These small towns are now drug-infested nanny states. But guess what? They voted for Trump because they know what is best for them, and they want to work, not enter academia or government jobs, but to work.
