Hey Everyone, I’m wondering if anyone knows of or has a good set of videos that go in depth to explain flashing details and construction details like in thew video I have attached by Ben. Its by far one of the most helpful videos i’ve found so far just with regards to actually showing real world examples without it being a cartoon like illustration. If you have any playlists, channels, or just recommendations let me know!
Roof and siding manufacturers are a good source of flashing details. Respected trade organizations are good for various construction information. For example, the American Wood Council.
Lots of good sources as pointed out already. Why do you need videos? Still pictures and images are much better for review and contemplating what is being presented.
I find a video, or better, viewing in person to be a nice closer to understanding the practical reality of what I’ve learned from text or from a still photo.
Ok. So I looked at the video of the House of Horrors and noticed the flashing beneath the deck ledger board. I suspect this was an example of an error, am I correct? I don’t recall ever seeing one in the field and it would seem to be redundant, though when dealing with water/moisture redundancy errs on the good side. I don’t have a copy of the IRC so I asked AI and was informed the 2021 IRC doesn’t require a flashing beneath the deck ledger board.
IMO, if there is siding installed below the ledger, you would need flashing to protect the horizontal edge of the siding and prevent water from entering behind the cladding.
Hey Brian, thanks for the input. Question, if there’s siding below and flashing above, where would the water be coming from? I’m being facetious, of course. You did have me thinking though.
