Correct wiring according to receptacle tester, but still a problem?

Translation…>When the Educational System begins to let the student down…WE are ALL Victims of that SYSTEM.

All receptacles in my house and in most of Quebec for that matter have the ground pin positioned up. In Ontario the ground pin is down, go figure…
As Paul and my electrical teacher at college mentioned, it is safer if the ground pin is up especially if a metal cover plate is used but it is not a requirement.

Its not upside down. Traditionally they are installed the other way, but more recently some electricians believe its better to install as shown in your picture. The argument given is not technical, but more of a “what if”. Yes, what if something like picture with metal frame was hanging on the wall above and it came loose falling on the receptacle/plug.

I personally have always installed them the old fashion way (the pins up). It looks more natural and normal to me that way. Never seen a picture fall on one yet.

The Pope posted a picture of a metal wall plate coming loose and falling on the partially pulled plug, it was not pretty…

(Not to date myself), but I seem to remember that metal wall plates were popular in kitchens in the '70s and '80s.

Anyway, recently posted on another Inspection MB: http://www.inspectionnews.net/home_inspection/electrical-systems-home-inspection-and-commercial-inspection/46525-upside-down-receptacles.html

Oh Heck No…You indeed dated yourself…Own It…

LOL!

and a solution…what a country !!!

Exactly… any wagers on how long it takes for an “inspector” to start three threads inquiring as to what kind of outlet it is, because they’ve never seen one before? (Note they just became an “inspector” last April).

Where are the appliances with 5 prongs?

I have never seen those. Does the big box stores (orange or blue) sell them? Are those allowed to be installed horizontal?

trouble maker…

Yes, for Canadian residents ONLY. So… you lucked out!

Installed horizontal not to offend…

An amateur installed those…the screws are not all horizontal.

I prefer vertical screws but they’re probably tight.

Not good building practices because the live prongs would be positioned upward and that metal plate that came loose would…

Rookie!.. The screws are the indicator of if the receptacles are wired in “Series” or “Parallel”.
