I got a call from someone at Integrated Real Estate Processing (I believe they are an appraisal firm) asking if I was interested in doing drive-by inspections for them. Performing the “inspection” required taking a photo of the subject property and answering 10 yes/no questions. Up to this point, I have only done full home inspections and WDO inspections. Does anyone else do this kind of work? Are there any watchouts? Any liability concerns?

I’ve worked for three different firms over the years. The compensation is normally pathetic at best. I used to do it just to pick up extra income on out of area home inspections to off set the travel cost. With fuel costs at $3 per gallon, it doesn’t pencil out. At $15 per drive by, even with my 30 mpg vehicle it still doesn’t make financial sense.

Be very carful if you do about getting paid, some of the take as long as 60-days to pay, previous past experience, don’t do them any more, only draw and escrow inspections,

If you're just looking to perform a few inspections as a sideline to your busy home inspections, I'd recommend Granite Construction Inspection company
www.gcinspects.com[url].
I've signed up with about ten companies and keep my coverage area small. That way I don't spend alot on gas and able to perform 2-3 per day, (depending on your area).
