efflorescence in soil?

Found a home with a lot of white chalky substance on soil in a crawlspace.
A look under a microscope tells me its not fungi. Can efflorescence appear on soils? Thanks

Absolutely. . .

Efflorescence simply means "loss of water from crystal." When a crystalline substance loses water, a deposit is left. This process and the actual deposit is called efflorescence.

Have seen it many times although not as prevalent as is found on concrete/mortar where salts/other chemicals are also in the cement/concrete/ mix.
