Description

The Boulder County Community Planning & Permitting Department is seeking an Electrical Combination Building Inspector. This position will perform technical inspection duties, to include electrical, plumbing, mechanical and structural framing in the enforcement of International building codes and Boulder County amendments. Inspector will also perform inspections for zoning, planning and wildfire requirements

This is a full-time, benefitted position. The work schedule is Monday - Thursday, 7:00am - 5:30pm, although there is an option for flexibility with the schedule . This position is primarily a remote position. County vehicle will be provided. Under FLSA guidelines, this position is non- exempt (eligible for overtime) .

Boulder County requires its employees to reside in the state of Colorado as of the first day of work.

As of December 1, 2021, Boulder County requires all employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or request an approved accommodation within ten days of accepting an offer of employment. A person is considered fully vaccinated two weeks after completion of a two-dose mRNA series or one dose of Johnson and Johnson vaccine.

Hiring Salary Range: $59,964.00 - $73,000.00 Annually
Classification Salary Range: $59,964.00 - $86,328.00 Annually

Tentative Hiring Timeline:

Examples of Duties

  1. Performs inspections on residential and commercial buildings being constructed, repaired or remodeled for compliance with building, electrical, plumbing and mechanical codes, and Boulder County amendments.

  2. Examines and reviews building construction plans to ensure compliance with Boulder County approved plans and applicable codes and ordinances, or detect any discrepancy between plans and finished building

  3. Performs inspections for zoning, planning and wildfire requirements

  4. Provides information to contractors, homeowners, engineers and other interested parties on building codes and amendments.

  5. Maintains familiarity with existing, revised and new applicable building codes and amendments

  6. May make recommendations to proper officials regarding appropriate methods/materials/and or actions to meet codes

  7. Conducts field inspections of foundations, framing, plumbing, mechanical, and electrical for code compliance and life safety provisions, composes clear, legible and thorough inspection records for diverse audiences and building staff.

  8. Trains and gives general direction to other employees when applicable

  9. Performs related duties, as required

  10. May be reassigned during emergency situations

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Boulder County is looking for well-qualified candidates to fill our positions. In this position, we are looking for a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent and four years of experience working in the building trades . Additional related education may county toward required experience.

LICENSE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Applicants must hold a State of Colorado Journeyman or Master Electrician’s license or be able to obtain a State Electrical License prior to starting

  • Current International Code Council (ICC) Residential combination Inspector Certifications or be able to acquire residential building and plumbing certifications within the first year of employment

  • Must possess a valid Colorado Drivers License prior to first date of employment

BACKGROUND CHECK:

  • Applicants must pass a criminal background check

Supplemental Information

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bilingual in Spanish and English

  • Considerable knowledge of modern building construction methods and practices, and appropriate building and electrical codes and ordinances

  • Ability to detect hazards and violations and recommend corrective action

  • Ability to understand plans, blueprints and specifications, and compare them with construction in progress

  • Ability to obtain ICC certifications in the International Building, Mechanical and Plumbing Codes and the National Electrical Code

  • Ability to work independently on field inspections and make decisions exercising technical judgement. Consults with supervisor on more difficult and unusual cases

  • Ability to work effectively with other employees and the public

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Performs physical tasks associated with field data collection at a variety of construction sites that require lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, or otherwise moving equipment and objects weighing up to 40 pounds. Traverses constructions sites, i.e. walking on uneven terrain, cross fences, climb ladders, and operate a vehicle to field locations. Requires the use of close and distant vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
