How many of you require your client stand clear of the arc flash or danger area when removing a panel cover? Do you inform them that should you come in contact with any live parts not to touch you?

LOL I'll do that for you now. I am deadly serious. The most dangerous thing I do is removing a panel cover. Remember when removing the cover everything inside is energized.

For those who do not think that 110 (120) is dangerous just take a pair of diagonal cutters (do not do this) and cut a 12-2awg. It will "blow" a hole the size of the wire in them.

Mike,

I just tried what you advised everyone to do (then not to do) and my diagonal cutter is now a 12 gauge wire strpper. It did leave a nice black hole on the cutting edge. Now I know how to make homemade wire strippers. Thanks

David,

Everyone learns that by experience. I learned that the hard way, years ago. Also, and no need to do this either, trust me, it does the same thing to your Klien linemans pliers.

I once changed a panel out live (service disconnect was part of the panel) because I was helping a friend, and his house had one of those power company locks on the meter from a prvious owner (no way to pull the meter). Just one of the many 'stupid' thing I did when I was young.

When someone says 'If you shoot yourself in the head with a 12 ga., you will die', please, do not then go out and try it. Some things you just have to accept as the truth.

My pliers, which I no longer have, would not think anything was funny about being used that way. I was serious. The unfortunate thing is that I managed to do this more than once.
