Inspected home with 200A panel that had fuse blocks with cartridges and screw in fuses. Below the last fuse about six inches of the buss bar was exposed and of course ‘live’. How would you report this?

Michael,

This is perfectly normal. There is exposed sections of the main busbar in almost every panel, unless it is completely filled with breakers.

I would inform the buyer that fuses are an older type system, which insurance companies may frown upon.

Michael,

When the fuse is the correct size and type for the application they are safer than the breaker eqivalent. The problem with fuses continues to be the homeowner that gets tired of replacing the properly sized fuse with an oversized fuse which can result is a fire. Most are not handy enough to replace the breaker so they have to call an electrician to fix the problem with the tripping breaker. ![icon_biggrin.gif](upload://iKNGSw3qcRIEmXySa8gItY6Gczg.gif)
