I am taking all the training right now and just watched the Fall Arrest System video. I noticed something that I believe is wrong. I have go through many fall protection trainings while working at a shipyard and it has always been explained to me to never attach a lanyard to a self retracting lanyard. The reason behind that is the self retracting lanyard is meant to stop right away and if you have another lanyard on it you wont stop right away. Can someone please let me know what makes it different from the OSHA safety courses I have been trained to and this one?
I was taught the same way that you were. Both the lanyard and the self-retracting each have shock absorbers that stretch when someone falls. You cannot have two in the same system as it could exceed the 6’ rule.
