I came across a Federal Pacific electrical panel today. I thought I read somewhere there was a problem with this type of electrical panel. I know it was hard to take the cover off without tripping a breaker. Is there anything else I need to be aware of about this type of panel?

One other thing is that the bottom row of breakers are gravity down for the “ON” position. That is a no-no. A breaker should not have to fight gravity to trip.
If you search FPE or Stab Lok on the BB you will find a lot of info. There have been many many discussions on these.

Other than the fact that there is 2 wires on that one breaker, that service would have to pass inspection. There are only 6 operating handles on that service and that is allowed under the NEC. The panel ( even though it is an FPE panel) was installed as per NEC and the panel is UL approved. FPE panels have a bad name and a bad reputation. I don’t know about other areas in the country but here in NJ you can still get breakers for these panels. The breakers are now much more money than they used to be. I used to be able to but a 1 pole 15A breaker for $5 and now it would cost $25 or more. a 2P 20 A would be close to $75 and a GFI breaker you would have to sell your car to afford.
