Kevin I don’t think that I ever have checked the draft on a fire place. If it was built on site I doubt it was engineered and if it was where would the specs be? Check the chimney, Flue, mantel, hearth, outside air damper, and flue damper after that its out of the scope of an Inspection.

I don't check the operation of a fireplace, and state that in my report. Also, I recommend a level II chimney inspection on all flues.
