From my understanding Polyurethane foam should not be used to seal openings on the exterior wall, because it is prone to deteriorate and should not be use in this application. I was wondering what others thought about using foam to seal openings on exterior walls. Any help would be appreciated.

The sun destroys it so trim it flush and latex paint it and it should be ok

i agree the sun does a number on can foam. the pic. you have even shows it. the foam was a manilla color at first now is “browning” from the sun. it shoul always be cut flush and sealed with either paint or caulk. other than that and not using in in electrical, i think it an ecinomical and suitable substance. icon_cool.gif

I usually ask that it be trimmed flat and covered with a 'good quality, commercial grade elastomeric caulk.

I only recommend foam is the gap is big. Otherwise, just caulk.

Let me guess, new construction. See this ALL the time. Even found one on a 12 month builder's warranty inspection.
