Can you have a garbage disposal in the house if you are on a septic tank? I don’t think so, does anyone agree or disagree?

The experts say NO to a garbage disposal, but most homes I run into with a septic system have a disposal and the owners say they have not had any trouble.

Personally I don’t use one with my septic system but if someone did they may have to pump their tank more often.

Around here the septic pumpers can't spray the effluent on the fields so much any more so it is getting more expensive to pump them out because they haul it to a treatment facility.

We compost most of what would go down the garbage disposal. It's great for the gardens. ![icon_biggrin.gif](upload://iKNGSw3qcRIEmXySa8gItY6Gczg.gif)

In our area if you want a disposal, the county health dept. requires a larger field plus an additional 1200 gal. tank in series with the first tank.
