In most gas stoves I've seen, the broiler is in the drawer on the bottom of the oven. Uses the same burner, just places the meat in a different location.
Though I've seen one or two with an extra burner on the top of the oven.

The older gas ovens had only one broiler, it was at the bottom. You had to use the bottom drawer to actually broil. Now the new gas ovens have a flame at the top as well, just like the electric coil on an electric oven. Gas is delivered to 2 separate places.
