I am thinking this is a defect and would like opinions.
Gas supply pipe entering furnace housing at bottom is tight up against the hole. With the vibration of the fan this would eventually cut through the pipe?
Or am I being too picky and this would not likley happen?

I do not see an issue.
That looks like sheet metal against iron pipe. It might take years and years to be a problem, if ever.
Is this a trailer house unit? They are all like that.
So how old is that POS? I can’t remember the last time I saw a pile of matchsticks stubs near a pilot light!
