Thanks Kenton, the article was really helpful! looking forward to the template library!
This will be my first time chiming in, i usually just like to hear what others have to say, but i felt obligated to make this point.
A little back ground, I’ve owned a general contracting business for over 20 years now, I’ve also been “flipping” house for over 10 years. I became a home inspector about 7 years ago, I’ve done close to 1000 inspections over the year. The reason im mentioning my back ground is my extensive experience with building codes. Now i know all the classes I’ve taken, and the SOP all say we’re not code inspectors but i have to say, we are code inspectors. Just about 90% of the things we are required to report on are based directly on building codes. Know If don’t believe this, you do not have contractor back ground. So anyone who says we’re not code inspectors is basically “wrong”. There is 1 big difference between home and code Inspectors, and that is, home inspectors have no authority. Oh and i forgot to mention i also went to college and have a degree in architectural drafting and engineering . Just another example of my extensive knowledge of building codes. Good luck to everyone
Great post. Home inspectors and the psuedo “educators” among us take this no code nonsense too far. I never use the word ‘code,’ I have a euphemism I use instead, ‘modern safety standards.’ Everyone wants their home and family to be safe and the reasoning behind many codes supports this.
