Glazed garage doors in a wind mitigation

I wanted to know if anyone has any advice on identifying whether or not a glazed garage door is impact and cyclic pressure rated by using the serial number only? and if not is there any way I can give the client an A for their glazed opening protection without the “wind load” sticker?

I am having a very hard time finding any information in regard to this topic.

You would be better served by posting this in the dedicated Florida section, where the inspectors that may have the information are more likely to see it quicker!

I have never been able to find any info based on the serial numbers.

So You have to look for a label indicating either wind resistance or impact rated. If there isnt one, then you would have to say either “X, no protection”, or “appears to be A or B, but not verified”

Impact garage doors typically have 6-8 brackets on each side of the track, while non-rated garage doors only have 4 or 5. So if you are claiming “appears to be”, then I would take a pic of the brackets

Ok thank you Daniel, that answers my question

You can use this State site to look up product approvals, but generally speaking, with no rating sticker or paperwork, you simply check the “X” box.

I don’t know this specific answer. However, I used to do manufacturing inspections for listed-building products. Companies are very proud of their ratings and certifications for their products. If you call the manufacturer, I bet you can get the info.

Rated glazed garage doors are not very common. If you do come across one it is generally a newer installation. Rated glazed garage doors will have an etching in the glass ( MDCA LSG, DCA, Laminated safety glass). You can also check with the homeowner to determine if they have any documentation or if they know the installer so you could contact them for information. The easiest way is to just look at the etching on the glass though. If one isnt present it is most likely not rated.
