Gmail by Google - free invites available

Google launched a new email service late last year, called Gmail. Gmail offers better spam filtering and 1Gb of mail storage, which is awesome for backing up files off your hard drive and for transfering files via email from one machine to another.

Gmail also lets you forward your email to any other account (for example your home or work email account), but it filters out the spam first and just forwards the stuff it thinks you want. Vey handy...

Google's Gmail is still invite-only, but I happen to have several invitations available and I've decided to give them out to NACHI members. Getting your account sooner rather than later means you can get a better email name (your own, or your company, or something with home inspector in it?). So, if anyone wants an invite, PM me with your email address and I will invite you into Gmail.

Offer is open til they are all gone...

Cheers,

Roberta

Joe,

C'mon, give me any three products or services and I can turn up at least 3 paranoid groups that say it is evil also.

What's your point?

I just can’t see any good reason to use it. If you have your own website, then you have your own email addy and should be able to receive your emails anywhere you are.

I am part of an affiliate network and have no control over my home page. My mistake in joining, but at least it got me started. That is why I have a gmail account. Plus, I never worry about accidentally deleting something important. I use POP to review everything on my computer and leave everything on their servers as backup.

Kevin,

The point of getting a Gmail account is not for email, it's to get 1GB of external storage for your files (reports, important files, etc.). Now, maybe you backup your personal computer to CD or other media daily or weekly, but not everyone does that on a regular basis.

I have found that Gmail can provide folks with an easy way to back up important files, by simply emailing them to a Gmail account. It also is great for transfering files between your desktop and notebook, or for being able to retrieve files from any remote location.

Finally, I use my Gmail account when I need to register domain names or post a public email address, since its spam filtering tools are excellent, trapping junk mail to a different folder and only forwarding emails to me that are not designated as spam.

Regards,

Roberta

Roberta,

I've been doing that for a long time with Yahoo. Yahoo currently provides me a 1.0 gb mailbox for free.

Most of the free email services have upped their storage space to 1 GB or better - the only reason I like Google is they have better spam filtering and free POP options for getting your mail. Plus, since they are still in “invitation only” mode, it’s easier to get a real name email address without having to resort to adding numbers or other characters to your name.

I also would not be surprised if URLs used regularly within Google's Gmail system didn't get picked up as relevant in the overall Google algorithm, although I have yet to find written documentation of this.
Since their email system is tied in to Adwords, it's reasonable and logical to expect this to be the case.

Roberta
