Ground Clamp at water pipe

I know this GEC should not be crushed between the pipe and clamp.

Manufacturers instructions would probably tell you that the clamping part of the clamp is for securing to the water pipe and the screw terminal at the top is for the EGC. The NEC requires that you follow all manufacturer’s instructions so the answer would be “no” it is never correct to squeeze the EGC against the pipe by using the clamping part of the clamp.
