The usual ground electrode in the “olden days” was the water pipe. Plastic has made that a questionable choice and water pipes must be suppplimented with another recognized type of electrode.


The best one these days will be the Ufer (rebar in the foundation) but if this is not made “available” at construction you are probably stuck with using a rod (or two).
