Ok. I gotcha. Just wanted to make sure I wasn’t crazy.
They are gables too by definition Marvin. Gable definition = “the part of a wall that encloses the end of a pitched roof”
Both of Matt’s examples are gable, they are just clipped gables. All raked sections are non-hip, and horizontal roof lines of a pitched roof >2/12 is hip…pretty simple. Has to do with how the wind hits the roof edge.
Hey Mathew,
I only do wind-mits with inspections, but when I do them, I keep it simple.
Roof shape: Hip or other.
So on my first example you would only measure the two rakes, and not the horizontal section in the middle of the dutch gable??
Measure the rake sections horizontally along the bottom chord for non-hip. The horizontal roof line section of the gable is considered hip. It’s not a Dutch Gable by the way, it is a Clipped Gable or Jerkinhead…don’t laugh, it’s true.
I guess we learn something every day. I KNOW for SURE it is OTHER
Is there a funny name we don’t know of for Dutch Hip? Learn something new everyday.
