Lets remember Mike Holmes; the codes are minimums!
I must also agree Vern, there are far more bad contractors then home inspectors, thats for sure! I can’t comment on how many clients I become involved with who comment on how they were taken by their contractor. It is a real problem in my neck of the woods.
Also if Mike is recommending contractors provide realestate inspections they most likely would not appreciate their conflict of interest because I believe most would inspect the property for the client then turn around and tell the client they would be pleased to fix the problem. Sorry Mike you can only wear one professional hat at a time. Mike maybe good with the brawn, but lousy at being brainy.
I like the other show Real Reno’s (Jim Carrick) at least there is some levity, where as Mike comes across as being cold.
I did hear they are not getting the turn out they hoped for at their conference .
Great to hear from you Roy hope you had a good season Missed talking to you .

Things are great. How have you been?
This Mike Holmes stuff is hilarious.
As you know, I am a building contractor also. NACHI coe says…no service or repairs on anything you inspect within 12 months. Very simple.
Those contractors are the guys that can’t get any of their own work or new guys just starting out = crappy workmanship + $$$$. I wonder how many law suits they get every year? Hey, but if Mike Holmes says they’re good they must be, right?
I was called by Home Depo to see if their roofer had done a proper job.
He had it was a chimney leak around the tile .
The lady showed me her Bill for the roof from Home depo $5,800:00 .
She had two building the exact same .
She had a local contractor do the second roof . $3,200;00 .
Both jobs where done well but WOW! what a difference in price .
Of course Home Depo has to pay for Mike Homes ( The expert )???

I know that NACHI was considering Mike Holmes as a speaker at the upcoming conference but I guess the conference organizers saw the light.
Maybe someone should send this article to the “Invisible Man” so he can tell his flock that Mr. Holmes doesn’t think all that highly of the people he will be speaking to out in Alberta.
Thanks Mike for confirming contractors are not part of intelligent life on earth.
Hold the fort a minute! While I’m not a fan of Home Depot , I don’t think it’s fair to paint their contractors with the same brush( no pun intended). At least Home Depot checks their contractors out & has some minimum standards. That at least is better then picking some contractor out of the local paper. Say what you like about Mr. Holmes. I like him. He at least is trying to bring some professionalism to the contracting business which is long overdue. Doug
I had the pleasure of meeting Jim Carrik, form Real Renos, this afternoon.
He is a real gentelman. We had a long talk about inspecting, contacting and …big Mike.
Jim is completely on side with us and how we conduct inspections and he said he couldn’t understand how we have any liability at all.
Maybe he would be interested in speaking at the convention
In fairness to Mike - he has pointed out some of the vulnerable areas of the home inspection industry. That mainly being those that cater to the realtor friendly reporting and future referrals, hence locking up the market with certain realtors.
Where I do disagree with him is painting everyone with the same brush. It is my understanding that a number of home inspectors have taken the initiative to inform him about the professionals that do exist out there!
