Home Inspector / Trainee Wanted - Oregon / Washington

We are expanding and are planning on hiring another home inspector for Oregon or southern Washington. Full job description included below. Thanks!

Nonprofit Home Inspections is a rapidly growing home inspection company based in Portland that is looking for a public service oriented home inspector or trainee to help fill an overwhelming demand for our high quality inspection services.

Nonprofit Home Inspections is unique in the home inspection industry in that it is registered as a 501©(3) nonprofit organization with the IRS. Nonprofit Home Inspections is dedicated to helping individuals make safe, financially sound and environmentally friendly housing decisions. In addition to providing outstanding home inspections for our clients, Nonprofit Home Inspections offers unbiased sewer scopes, radon testing, mold inspections, and other services designed to help our clients make the most informed housing decisions possible. In addition to providing home inspection services for the general public, Nonprofit Home Inspections provides services free of charge for other nonprofit organizations that serve low income populations including weatherization programs for seniors, domestic violence shelters and affordable housing projects.

Since our founding, Nonprofit Home Inspections has never once paid for advertising or solicited work from real estate agents. Even so, we are consistently booked out a week or more and are turning away more than twice the number of home inspections we can currently schedule. Our community focused efforts are built on exceptionally thorough inspections, detailed reports, strong customer service, and word of mouth referrals from previous clients.

Home inspector trainees will make $15 per hour during training. Fully licensed home inspectors with us can expect to make $65,000 to $85,000 for full time work. Salaries increase with additional certifications and licenses related to sewer scopes, radon testing, mold testing, etc. Additional benefits include a company vehicle and gas card, two weeks paid vacation, errors and omission’s insurance, high quality professional equipment including a thermal imaging camera, significant ongoing education opportunities, etc. Unlike many other home inspection companies, our inspectors are employees and not independent contractors. As such, you will have additional personal protections including a worker’s compensation policy in case of work related accidents and unemployment insurance.

Nonprofit Home Inspections is a subsidiary of Home Empower, a nonprofit organization that will soon be expanding into solar panel and heat pump installations for low income families. There will be a significant amount of opportunity for additional training and advancement for Nonprofit Home Inspections’ inspectors and trainees.

We are looking for one or more exceptional home inspectors or trainees to help fill unmet demand for our services. Applicants should have a strong background in construction, plumbing, weatherization, solar panel installation, or similar trades. Applicants must be able to work at least one day on the weekends, should have a good driving record and must be able to pass a strict FBI fingerprint background check. Applicants must have very strong writing and communication skills, be detail oriented, have good computer skills, and have a demonstrated commitment to working for the greater public good.

This position is physically demanding and requires a significant amount of lifting and entry into small spaces including attics and crawlspaces. Our inspections are very thorough and the job requires detailed analysis of hard to reach areas that other inspection companies may simply write off as inaccessible. Applicants should not be afraid of getting dirty (although Tyvek suits and HEPA full face respirators are provided) and should be mission focused. Because of a significant investment in our inspectors / trainees and their exposure to proprietary information, a two year non-compete agreement will be required for any successful applicant.

These positions are open until filled. In order to apply, please fill out our job application and upload a resume and cover letter at https://nonprofithomeinspections.org/home-inspector-job-application Once completed, you will receive an automatic reply that we have received your application along with a copy of your answers. Because of the quantity of submissions, we are unable to personally reply to every application. All applications are confidential and we will not contact your current employer or references without your permission. Please do not contact our employees about your application.
