Home owner intervention

Not sure what this set up is for but I recommend someone to remove.

What is/was the home owner trying to do?

Thermostatically controlled blower connected to masonry chimney. Chimney has a liner for mechanical systems, cap at exterior.

Hummm, I can’t even think of any safe rational reason for that set up ?

It almost looked like someone was trying to live in the attic. There were dresser drawers lined up on the other side.

I had to walk carefully as there was drywall and paneling all over the attic floor. Maybe the owner wanted a place to get away from it all.

Would be interesting to see the chimney area below the blower discharge connection to see if it was blocked off to prevent air from flowing down the flue. My thinking would be someone is trying to remove hot air from the attic and discharge it up the chimney. Were there any gable or soffit vents installed as the blower was taking a suction from within the attic

drying pot? pottery?

Knob and tube alert!

Possible to remove hot air in the summer and cold air in the winter from the attic area like a power ventilator - also, did the attic have static ventilation such as roof vents, ridge vents, soffit vents, gable end ventilation, etc.?
