I think I screwed up. When I was testing driving and poking around with HomeGauge I was only doing Web Writer apparently. I went out to do my first practice inspection yesterday and it was waaaaaay more difficult to use the Web Writer in the field and after to edit my report than I expected. My report looks nothing like the reports I see from other companies and samples. It’s nothing like the example my Instructor expects me to use as a guide and overall it’s incredibly inflexible.
I’m guessing that all of the people that sing the praises of HomeGauge are using Desk Writer with the Companion?
I’ve used the Desk writer with companion for 10+ years, it does a great report and easy to use. 3 hour inspection, 1 hour on the Desk top, done!!
I’ve never used WebWriter.
I called and got set up to use the Desk Writer and Companion. I love it so far. Little bit of a learning curve to get set up, I’m trying to recreate my practice inspection from yesterday via my pics and notes, and what I already had in the Web Writer.
It’s supposed to be a simpler way to do reports from HomeGauge, but extremely inflexible at the moment, and I think it’s going to be a bit before it’s really ready for inspectors to use.
Watch the instruction videos, that’s how I learned it, there is a wealth of instruction available from HomeGauge. Once you get your head around how it works you’ll be fine. Good luck
Desk and Companion for us. Don’t actually use the companion much except to put in things like appliance brands…I like just having a camera around my neck with hands free, Click and move on. Report is completed at home on the desktop.
With the price increases nearly doubling what I paid for services over last 2 years and lack of viable improvements, I’m moving on. Their Desktop writer is reliable and dependable but not worth $700 for report storage. I’d pay double for a product that was robust and provides value, HG used to be top notch, it’s too bad but more of the “let’s consolidate the HI industry into corporate owned pieces of puzzle” oh well.
